About
Nana Freitag is a Togolese-German multidisciplinary artist based in Cologne, with a B.A. in Social and Cultural Anthropology. Her work creates space for the exploration of multidimensionality by integrating anthropological fieldwork methodologies, archival research, and field recordings as the foundation for her paintings and drawings of beings. These works often embody the tension between intervention and uncertainty.
Her art is deeply intuitive, merging spiritual insights with grounded elements, allowing emotions to be observed and reevaluated. She offers a unique perspective on the blended impact of internal, political, spiritual processes in our contemporary world. As a biracial woman with Togolese and German roots, her cultural background shapes her creations, inviting viewers to embark on their own journey of what personal discovery can look like.
Currently, Nana is concluding a significant phase in her artistic journey, hinting at the ongoing abstraction and deconstruction of bodies in her work. This marks the end of one process while teasing the evolution of her art into new realms. Nana continues to explore new mediums, incorporating sewn objects and sound collages. Her art remains a therapeutic process where spirituality and „reality“ intertwine.
